Solid analysis with your normal ESI source?

You know those days when you're running late for everything but then you find a fecal sample in your hallway that has to be extracted and analyzed before you do anything else?  And late at night when you finally finish everything you get to thinking -- maybe there is a better way?

What if you could just put that sample -- or any other solid (or liquid) sample right in your regular old atmospheric pressure ionization (API) source with no extraction or treatment? What if that could allow you to analyze the volatiles and semivolatiles almost instantly? Maybe you aren't even really sure what might be in that sample -- how it got there -- or how to extract it?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions -- (depending on which one -- you might honestly be a bit odd. That is obviously beside the point, there are probably other less strange scenarios that land you with a solid sample you might want to analyze, but for some reason that is the first one that came to mind for me.)

--maybe you need this Atmospheric Solid Analysis Probe! (ASAP -- which is a registered trademark -- I don't know how to draw the little R with a circle around it)

Please see the disclaimers section -- this is not an endorsement -- I have not even tried this product, it just looks like a way to extend the capabilities of the instruments I sometimes use to do something completely different --solid analysis! without other less complicated ionization sources that I don't have access to.
